The directs above might not mean much to some, but they are invaluable to those captaining a ship destined for London, England. If even the slightest deviation, one could find themselves docking far from the intended target.
Clarifying our desired destination is essential while voyaging life. The journey can be planned and navigated correctly with an endpoint in scope. Discounting definition can be disastrous. Just as devastating is being unprepared for the unpredictable elements that the world is capable of throwing at us.
In the day, Christopher Columbus used celestial navigation, relying on the moon, sun, and stars. Today, computers have advanced to the degree of finite accuracy. Either way, a conscious aim and proper coordinates are the start of a successful trek.
Programing inaccurate data could land us in the wrong place. If we leave our drift to the shifting sea and ever-changing winds, we quickly veer off course. Preparation and preparedness represent the difference between smooth sailing and ocean wreckage.
As we have navigational tools and proven techniques to guide vessels accurately, we, too, have learned and available mechanisms that can help as we traverse life.
Anybody can captain a ship in dock. The water is calm, and the boat is anchored. There is little danger when static, but when life becomes dynamic (and it does), it is like the waves and winds in the open waters. A skipper must be aware of elements thrusting around to make appropriate adjustments. Hands on the Helm – Eyes on the Bow. Focused and diligent.
One can not “wish” to end up in London. A successful expedition requires intent. An effective life plan involves both the heart and the head. The spirit within acts as the compass, identifying one's true north. The brain power follows leveraging the latest in instruments and intuitiveness.
Lastly, a capable crew for support provides the power to propel and support where needed. To avoid dreaded cabin fever and stir-craziness, a solid squad helps back the mission and keep things running smoothly, lending care and accountability.
Our prayer for the reader of this post is that you choose eternal life as your ultimate destination - That you set your heart and head in that direction - That you keep your eye on the mark and stay vigilant - That you lean on the support of others to ensure a safe arrival –
And, while mapping out your course, turn to the Bible as the only authentic means of guidance.
